Social Work

We know that life can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially when you are trying to find the right help and support. That is why we are here to make things a little easier. We have built great connections with local services and teams, so you don’t have to face it all alone.

Our team can help with all sorts of practical and emotional support. This includes completing benefit forms and applications, finding and connecting you with the right services, arranging home care or support visits, and visiting you in the hospital. We also provide help for carers and family members, assist with getting equipment to make your home safer and more comfortable, accompany you to appointments, and offer budgeting advice or financial support during difficult times.

We also understand how vital companionship is. Loneliness can affect anyone, especially older people who may not have loved ones nearby. Our friendly team can arrange regular visits or phone calls, offering a chat, a listening ear, and a familiar voice because sometimes, that connection makes all the difference.

Transport

We recognise that travelling to important appointments or community activities can sometimes be challenging, particularly for those without family or friends nearby to assist. Where possible, we can provide transport to help you attend medical, social, or other essential appointments safely and comfortably.

When available, we are also happy to support you in taking part in local community events and gatherings, ensuring you can stay connected and involved in community life.

Community Events

At Birmingham Jewish Community Care, we believe that community is at the heart of wellbeing. Throughout the year, we host a variety of events that bring people together from social gatherings and cultural celebrations to educational talks and festive activities. Each event is a chance to connect, share, and celebrate the richness of our community life.

We know that getting out and about isn’t always easy, so we are here to help. Transport can be arranged for those who need it, and our friendly team and volunteers are always on hand to offer support and companionship during events.

Our programme is made possible thanks to the dedication of our volunteers, whose time and enthusiasm help create welcoming and memorable experiences if you would like to be part of this, whether by lending a hand or sharing your ideas, we would love to have you involved.

You can find details of our upcoming events on our Facebook page, in The Recorder Online, and through local community channels. Come along, meet new people, and enjoy everything our community has to offer.

Grants

We offer financial assistance to individuals and organisations within the Jewish community who meet our grant criteria. Our grants are designed to provide practical help during times of need and to support projects that benefit our community.

We’re here to make the process as straightforward as possible. Our team can help you complete an application, or we can send the forms directly to you if you prefer to fill them out yourself. Every application is carefully reviewed and considered on its own merits.

Smaller grants are usually processed quickly, while applications for larger amounts are referred to our Board of Trustees for consideration. All information shared with us is treated in the strictest confidence.
